Oklahoma farrier Lee "Termite" Eugene Myatt passed away July 4, 2026. He was 73.

During his career, Myatt served as the official farrier for the AQHYA World Championship Show, the AQHA World Championship Show, the APHC World Show, the Paint World Championship Show, Cheyenne Frontier Days and the International Finals Youth Rodeo in Shawnee. He took great pride in his work and was respected by horsemen across the country.

While Myatt loved horses and enjoyed being at the rodeo, especially roping, the people he met alongt he way meant just as much to him. He never met a stranger and had a special bond with children, quickly becoming "Uncle Termite" or "Mr. Termite" to many. He built lifelong friendships wherever he traveled, especially in Illinois.

"He was a character like no other. The first horse he ever shod for us was Dee Invitation in September 1996. Six weeks later, that horse went on to win the Congress 2-Year-Old Futurity. From that day forward, for the next 25+ years, I never once questioned his loyalty or his work. I can’t count the times he’d say, 'I’ve known that guy since he was a kid,' and honestly, I think he probably had. Thank you for everything you did for us, Termite. There will never be another like you," Oklahoma trainer Gil Gaylean says on Facebook.

Myatt is survived by his partner, Debbie, and many family and friends. A celebration of life will be held in November during the Quarter Horse World Show in Oklahoma City. Additional details will be announced at a later date.
