Matthew Ostergard
"It is with great enthusiasm that Hooved Animal Humane Society (HAHS) submits this letter recognizing and honoring Matthew Ostergard of Cross Creek Forge for his exceptional service to rescue horses and the equine welfare community.
HAHS is a nonprofit equine rescue dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming horses in transition. The horses that arrive at our facility often come from situations involving neglect, inadequate care, or limited handling. As a result, many have received little or no routine farrier care and can be fearful, untrained, and, at times, dangerous to work around.
Providing proper hoof care to these horses is a critical part of their rehabilitation, and this is where Matthew's skill, patience, and professionalism truly shine. Working with rescue horses presents a unique challenge. Just as our horses learn to stand quietly and confidently for farrier work, they are often adopted into loving homes, and a new group of horses arrives requiring the process to begin all over again. Matthew approaches each horse as an individual, meeting them where they are and helping them progress safely and successfully.
In addition to the behavioral challenges, the needs of a rescue organization are constantly changing. The number of horses in our care fluctuates throughout the year, and individual horses frequently require specialized hoof care or coordination with veterinarians, trainers, and other equine professionals. Matthew consistently demonstrates flexibility and a willingness to help, regardless of the circumstances. He works collaboratively with our team and outside professionals to ensure that every horse receives the care it needs.
One of Matthew's most valuable qualities is his organization. Rescue work involves a tremendous amount of scheduling, recordkeeping, and coordination. Matthew's reliability, attention to detail, and excellent communication make managing these responsibilities significantly easier for our staff. We know we can count on him to keep horses on schedule and to provide thoughtful recommendations that support each horse's health and rehabilitation.
Beyond his technical expertise, Matthew brings a positive attitude and genuine compassion to every visit. He understands that rescue work can be unpredictable and challenging, yet he consistently approaches each situation with professionalism, patience, and a willingness to serve. His dedication has directly contributed to our ability to prepare horses for successful adoption and new beginnings.
At HAHS, we often say that it takes a team to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome horses. Matthew Ostergard is an indispensable member of that team. His farrier skills, commitment to horse welfare, and unwavering support of our mission have improved the lives of countless horses and helped make successful adoptions possible.
We are honored to recognize Matthew Ostergard of Cross Creek Forge and thank him for the extraordinary contributions he has made to the horses in our care and to the broader equine community."
