A fire at Mustad’s Minnesota factory is disrupting the production of St. Croix horseshoes. There were no injuries, says the manufacturer.
The fire was sparked the early afternoon of April 24, 2026, on Mustad USA’s St. Croix production lines at its Forest Lake, Minn., facility. It also manufactures Capewell, Delta and Mustad nails; Mustad and Delta shoes; Heller rasps and Mustad tools. No stock was damaged in the fire.
“The local fire department responded quickly and extinguished the first, limiting damage to only one small area of the factory,” according to a Mustad USA statement that was released Wednesday, April 29. “Our team is working to reinstate production quickly. We anticipate this will not take that long and expect to be back in production shortly.”
The facility, which manufactures St. Croix steel and aluminum shoes, will take extra measures to increase production when work resumes.
“We will quickly ramp up operations and add extra shifts to minimize any market impact,” Mustad says. “We do not expect major supply disruptions to the hoof-care market.”
Lexington, Ill.-based Anvil Brand expressed its relief that the fire wasn’t more serious.
“We are happy to hear that the recent machine fire at Mustad did not jeopardize U.S. operations,” according to Anvil Brand. “We need to preserve what little remains of the hoof-care industry manufactured here in the U.S. Good luck navigating through this.”
