Gary U'Ren Farriers Week

My mentor was my late father Gary U’Ren. My father’s mentor was the late Hall of Fame farrier Bob Reaume of Michigan. My father relocated our family from Michigan to California in 1973 to shoe on the Standardbred racetrack circuit, which was flourishing in the 70s. I started working with my father in the early 80s, and he is the reason I became a farrier and definitely the only reason I stayed with it. After nearly 44 years of making a comfortable living shoeing horses, I have him to be forever grateful to, for his remarkable patience, knowledge, and skills that he taught me. So many great memories of working side by side with him for many years.
