Steven Payne is the definition of selfless service. Whether he’s responding to emergencies as a full-time firefighter, caring for horses as a professional farrier, or spending time with his family as a devoted husband and father, he gives his whole heart to everything he does.
As a full-time firefighter, Steven has dedicated his life to protecting others, often putting himself in harm’s way to serve his community. That same commitment carries over into his work as a farrier. He has earned the trust and respect of countless horse owners through his honesty, reliability, exceptional craftsmanship, and genuine compassion for both horses and the people who own them.
Steven believes that equine podiatry is more than trimming and shoeing horses — it is about building relationships, educating horse owners, and helping every horse live a healthier, more comfortable life. He approaches each horse with patience, understanding that every animal is unique and deserves individualized care. His calm demeanor and willingness to explain the “why” behind his work have made him not only a skilled farrier but also a valued teacher and mentor.
Beyond his profession, Steven is first and foremost a family man. He is a loving husband and an incredible father who works tirelessly to provide for and support his family. Despite balancing the demanding schedule of a firefighter with the physical demands of running a farrier business, he always finds time to be present for those he loves. His faith, integrity, and work ethic are evident in every aspect of his life.
What truly sets Steven apart is his servant’s heart. Whether he’s fitting a difficult therapeutic shoe, working long hours in every kind of weather, mentoring a fellow farrier, or answering a late-night emergency call as a firefighter, he never hesitates to help others. He continually seeks to improve his skills, stays current with advancements in hoof care, and holds himself to the highest professional standards.
To those who know him, Steven is much more than a farrier. He is a trusted professional, a mentor, a firefighter, a husband, a father, and a friend whose life reflects compassion, service, and excellence. He represents the very best of the farrier profession and is exceptionally deserving of recognition in the American Farriers Journal Farrier Spotlight.
