Idaho farrier Jake Berreth passed away June 7, 2026. He was 81.
Berreth spent his life as a horseshoer, a profession he took great pride in. His loyalty, generosity, strong work ethic and willingness to always lend a hand to a friend earned him the respect of many. When he wasn’t shoeing, Berreth could be found in the garden or the kitchen.
“Jake was my farrier (and friend) for over 30 years. He shod or trimmed all of my horses, ponies and mules and did it with a smile. He could look at a hoof once and craft a perfect fitting shoe. Jake was an artisan, a master of his craft, but even more than that, he was a prince of a human being,” says Jo DesMarais on Facebook.
Berreth found joy in the simple pleasures of life and will be missed by family and friends.
“Jake always made my husband, son and I feel like we were special and important to him because he always lingered to visit with us. And he was always there when we needed him. Now after reading all the comments we see he made everyone feel that way,” says Jan Conner on Facebook.
No celebration of life is planned at this time. Tributes for Berreth can be shared to this Facebook post.
