Digital Record-Keeping has Benefits for Farriers

Maintain up-to-date client notes & communicate professionally

Maintaining horse records, inventory, scheduling and accounting take up time. They’re the necessary but tedious parts of operating a business. In the last year, over 50% of farriers who responded to the American Farriers Journal Farrier Business Practices Survey reported that they use pen and paper to account for these various aspects of their business. While this doesn’t mean it’s their only method of recordkeeping, it speaks to its popularity. Pen and paper is straightforward, but it’s not always reliable. 

When written spontaneously on nearby paper or not all stored in one place, horse records and scheduling are liable to get lost or forgotten, which can tarnish a farrier’s professionalism in the eyes of the client. Paper records are also vulnerable. They can be torn, smudged, damaged by water or fire or otherwise rendered unreadable. Important accounting, invoicing or tax documents can be lost or misused. 

One way to keep records safe and secure is to maintain them digitally. For farriers, one of the newest private and secure options is the EQUINET app by Mustad.
