Virginia farrier Elmer Glick passed away December 7, 2025, after a brief illness. He was 63.
Glick was a well-known and well-loved member of the farrier community. He loved hunting and participating in farrier competitions. He was a member of the American Farriers Association, World Championship Blacksmiths and the Virginia Horseshoers Association.
"He was such a great guy to be around," says Delaware farrier Alvin Beiler. "We traveled to many farrier contests, clinics, conventions and events together. He also apprenticed with me when he started. He will be greatly missed."
On its Facebook page, the Virginia Horseshoers Association (VHA) announced an auction to support his wife, Cindy Simmons. The auction is open until Friday, December 12, 2025 at 8 p.m. Eastern. Items include forged roses, a personal clinic with New York farrier Ben Mangan, a custom anvil stand by Henry Beiler, Cory Minnick hot fit tongs, an Israel Tkatch knife and a vacation day, thanks to Pennsylvania farrier Wesley Auker. Glick is survived by Cindy and may family and friends. A viewing is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 11, 6-8 p.m. at Shivery Funeral Home, 3214 Lincoln Highway East, Paradise, Pa. Interment will be in Myers Amish Cemetery before the memorial service. A memorial service will take place at Stumptown Mennonite Church, 2813 Stumptown Road, Bird in Hand, Pa., on Friday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m.
