Tips And Techniques For Shoeing The Draft Horse With Michael Wildenstein, CJF, FWCF

This DVD was filmed for RFD-TV with five segments or episodes. Each segment is an average of 26 minutes for a total of over 2 hours of viewing time. Since all five segments are included on one video, you can view the complete trimming and shoeing job from start to finish without having to wait until next week to view another episode.

The format also offers the option to view segments individually in this series produced by Rural Heritage magazine.

The complete hoof-care job is divided into these five episodes:

  • Trimming a front foot.
  • Trimming a hind foot.
  • Shoeing a front foot.
  • Shoeing a hind foot.
  • Shoe modifications.

This video does not include draft horseshoe forging or shoeing draft horses for a competition.

Plenty Of Helpful Hints

In this video, Michael Wildenstein shoes his own Percheron gelding, Pat. The former head farrier at Cornell University discusses some helpful tips as he trims and shoes Pat. These tips are valuable for shoeing draft horses, but could be included or applied in almost any shoeing situation.

Through the course of the DVD, Wildenstein mentions different products that he likes to use for completing certain aspects of the job. The many sponsors who contributed to this DVD are highlighted with company information.
