J.P. Brewer, 67, passed away peacefully at his North Carolina home on Wednesday, April 22, 2015.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday at Belvoir FWB Church. Burial followed in the Brewer Family Cemetery in Belvoir, N.C.

Brewer, a lifelong resident of Pitt County, spent his early years in Belvoir, and was a 1966 graduate of Belvoir-Falkland High School. After high school, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

“I knew J.P. most of my life,” Gary Eastwood says. “He was a real cowboy in heart and ways. He would give you his last dollar and the shirt off his back. He would quit what he was doing to help you and make you feel better about your self than you deserved. He will be missed, but not forgotten.”

He owned and operated Brewer Farrier Service for more than 30 years with his wife Cathy, servicing the East Coast.

“J. P. was a friend for many years and was farrier for our horses more than 30 years,” says Charlie and Jeanette White. “His knowledge of horses and how to care for them surpassed anyone we have ever known.”

His lifelong passion was for horses and dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Katie Brewer; and a brother, Clyde Brewer. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Brewer; sister, Elizabeth Brown of Belvoir; special lifelong friend, Anna Jones of Mt. Olive; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
