North Carolina farrier Mitchell Jones passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 1, 2026. He was 69.
Jones began his hoof-care career at an early age when he began working at the age of 11 with his father, International Horseshoeing Hall of Famer Donald Jones. He excelled at the work and could shoe on his own by 15.
After graduating from Southeast Guilford High School and Guilford Technical Community College, Jones formally began his career, becoming one of the top farriers in the state. He became a certified farrier through the North Carolina Horseshoers Association (NCHA) while shoeing horses throughout North Carolina and neighboring states for more than 40 years. He was a lifelong member of the NCHA. He retired at the age of 55.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, at Forbis and Dick Funeral Service, 4601 Pleasant Garden Rd., Pleasant Garden, N.C. Funeral services will follow in the chapel at noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the NCHA at 723 Manual Rd., Mayodan, N.C. 27027.
