The third weekend of November brought the board of directors of the American Association of Professional Farriers (AAPF) to Sacramento, Calif., for its annual meeting.

With this meeting came the opportunity to capitalize on having the board — and all its combined hoof-care knowledge — together to provide a “Hoofcare Essentials” clinic to farriers in Northern California. Adam Wynbrandt, owner and operator of the Horseshoe Barn, in Sacramento, Calif., hosted the event at his shop.

The day included an all-star lineup of clinicians, presenting a lecture and sharing videos and pictures pertaining to their presentations.

Jennifer Horn, of Sault Sainte Marie, Mich., presented “Who is the Judge?” This lecture addressed the importance of competitions and certifications and what they’ve done for her career.

Dave Farley, of Coshocton, Ohio, provided attendees with information on the group’s new mentor/mentee program headed up by farrier Mike Wharton, of York Haven, Pa.

Roy Bloom, of Drummond, Wis., finished the morning’s presentations with “Tools for the Professional Farrier.” He discussed how to maintain the tools of the trade and the importance of doing so.

Ridley kicked off the afternoon with a discussion of the vet/farrier relationship and why it is so important. Ridley was followed by Bedminster, N.J., farrier Bob Pethick’s presentation, “Managing Mismatched Feet.”

David Dawson, of Ontario, Canada, finished the clinic with his presentation of “The Good, The Bad and the Ugly — Untold Truths about Farriery.”
