Troy Wood is on a roll.

The Riverside, Wash., farrier has finished in the top spot in eight of the past nine consecutive World Championship Blacksmiths events, including this past weekend at the State Fair of Virginia. The last time he didn’t? The 2025 Blacksmith World Championships at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, Alberta, when he was runner-up to Steven Beane.

It’s been an impressive run of excellence for Wood. He has won or been a member of a team that has won:

  • 2025 Road Runner Classic
  • 2025 State Fair of Virginia
  • 2025 WCB National Champion
  • 2026 World Horseshoeing Classic champion, Team WCB with Stan Mullen, Gavine Cooper and Mason Mileski
  • 2026 West Texas Ranch Rodeo
  • 2026 Road Runner Classic
  • 2026 Blacksmith World Championship
  • 2026 State Fair of Virginia

Wood sealed his latest victory by capturing the Liberty Live Shoeing on the final day. He outpaced fellow Washington state shoer Gavine Cooper, 234-228. Wood also scored the best shod foot of the day.

Jake Yinguez of Weatherford, Texas, took home the Category 3 victory (208 points), while Cortez Waddell of Woodruff, S.C., was the Cat. 2 winner (190) and Caleb Zachrich of Defiance, Ohio, captured Cat. 1 (186). Adam Fahr, CJF, of Paragould, Ark., was the event’s judge.

The WCB will close out the 2026 season with its National Championship from Dec. 2-5 in Fort Worth, Texas. The judges are Douwe Dokter and Maarten Abbink, both from the Netherlands.
