Purcell Farrier Supply of Purcell, Okla., is honored as the third annual American Farriers Journal Supply Shop of the Year.
International Hall of Fame judges Margie Lee Gustafson of Woodside, Calif., Steve Kraus of Trumansburg, N.Y., and Randy Luikart of Ashland, Ohio, assessed nominees based on a 20-question survey covering customer service, product variety & inventory, shipping & delivery, community engagement and accessibility. As the surveys contained identifying information, responses were edited to ensure an unbiased decision.
Owners of Purcell Farrier Supply, Sylvia and Rebecca Roth, took over the family business when their father, International Equine Veterinarian Hall of Famer Dr. Jack Roth, passed away in 2024. In addition, the Roths operate Mindanao Forge Co. (MFC), based in the Philippines, which manufacture MFC, Jim Keith and RG Tools.
“My dad, Hank Morgan, has been shoeing racehorses since he was 21 years old,” says Cole Morgan, an Oklahoma farrier and loyal Purcell customer. “He has seen the whole industry evolve, and Purcell is still supplying to a 66-year-old man who makes his living through their company.
“That is the biggest thing you can possibly do for the farrier industry. Not only are the Roths educating farriers, they’re selling supplies so that farriers can make their living. They’re accountable to so many families in our area and out of state.”
Purcell takes a hands-on, customer-centered approach to its operations through after-sales support, recurring discounts, and supporting farrier education. In addition to Purcell Farrier Supply, Sylvia and Rebecca also operate Oklahoma Horseshoeing School and Oklahoma State Horseshoeing School, where students from around the world receive their horseshoeing education.
"Our goal is to stay engaged, give back to the community and support the farriers who rely on our tools every day," says Sylvia Roth.
