Of more than 30 farrier supply shops nominated in North America, Oleo Acres Farrier and Blacksmith Supply of Littleton, Colo., is honored as the second annual American Farriers Journal Supply Shop of the Year.
International Horseshoeing Hall of Fame judges Margie Lee Gustafson of Woodside, Calif., Steve Kraus of Trumansburg, N.Y., and Randy Luikart of Ashland, Ohio, assessed nominees based on a 20-question survey covering customer service, product variety & inventory, shipping & delivery, community engagement and accessibility. If surveys contained identifying information, responses were edited to ensure an unbiased decision.
Building on the success of his parents, grandfather and great-grandparents, fourth-generation owner and president of the Farrier Industry Association Rob Michel leads the charge at Oleo Acres.
With an unwavering focus on the customer, Oleo Acres is predicated on community involvement, building enduring relationships and supplying farriers with the best products to serve their needs.
“I’ve been loyal to Oleo because the Michels are outstanding people,” says Fort Collins, Colo., farrier Brian Buckner. “They’ve been so good to me over the years. Their integrity and honesty are beyond reproach.”
Each year, Oleo Acres also sponsors local, national and international farrier events, cementing its commitment to its customers.
“I don’t buy from anywhere else, not because he rewards me for it but because of how much he’s sponsored clinics, contests and the state association,” says Parker, Colo., farrier Jaime Venegas. “He is one of those people who has given more than anybody to improve the local farrier community.”
Celebrating a major milestone this year, the 2025 Supply Shop of the Year is a fitting honor for Oleo Acres’ 50th anniversary.
“I love our customers. I love our employees. I love what we do on a daily basis. To see Oleo recognized as the Supply Shop of the Year after 50 years — that’s incredibly humbling. We’re truly blessed,” Michel says.
