One notable finding in this year’s survey is that the average full-time farrier’s client list has grown while the number of horses on their books has shrunk. Clients have increased by 13% to 101, and the number of horses has decreased by 19% to an average of 300. Farriers are also driving more miles for hoof-care work, up 13% for an average of 418 miles per week.
Driving more miles for fewer horses can be a recipe for losing money. This is why efficiency in scheduling is important. Your time spent on the road and the money spent on fuel are both expenses to consider.
