Looking Ahead

The online article “Hoof Care Predictions For 2016” provided a good overview of what is trending in the farrier industry. Hopefully, some of the controversial subjects surveyed will be debated and resolved.

First, there is the subject of the need for veterinarian oversight. This has been a long debated subject that may be resolved when the veterinary community better understands the knowledge of good farriery.

Secondly, “barefoot” has always been an option for the horse. Ideological people with little or no hoof-care education became involved and found that money was to be made.

Thirdly, an effort should be made to make it more feasible to take on an apprentice by allowing for protection of the person teaching the apprentice, as well as the apprentice, both financial and legal. This would be a start.
