How To Ensure The Purchase Of Quality Feed And Supplements

When recommending feed and supplements to your novice clients, you want to ensure that they are buying quality products. Jessica Normand, SmartPak’s senior director of equine health, offers some indicators that your clients can look for.

  • The National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) seal of quality. “This assures the horse owner of quality in manufacturing practices, consistent label guidelines (that all ingredients are correctly disclosed) and that the manufacturer participates in an adverse event reporting system,” she says. “There are many consumer peace of mind benefits if they choose a product with the NASC seal.”
  • The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) registration. ISO, which was established in 1947, is an independent, non-governmental international organization that promotes the development of standardization and related world activities to facilitate the exchange of goods and services. Only 10% of U.S. manufacturing operations have registered their quality management system to ISO 9001.
