Farrier Product Distribution (FPD) announced Thursday, July 16, 2015, that the Royal Kerckhaert Horseshoe Factory has acquired the Diamond farrier division from Apex Tool Group (ATG).
Beginning Aug. 1, FPD will exclusively distribute all Diamond brand horseshoes and tools in the U.S. and Canada for Kerckhaert.
"Kerckhaert feels the acquisition of Diamond is a positive addition as a compliementary line,” says Dan Burke, president of FPD. “Kerckhaert is very strong in the professional market and Diamond is a sold brand for the pleasure horse and do-it-yourself markets.
"We have had a long and successful relationship with Kerckhaert and are confident, with their exceptional attention to quality and detail, Diamond customers will be pleased with this acquisition. I'm sure the market can expect to see improvements in the range of products in the future and Kerckhaert and FPD will be working together to improve Diamond's position in the market."
Kerckhaert officials say they looking forward to the newest chapter in the company’s long history.
“We are very excited about this new opportunity,” says Martin Kerckhaert of the Royal Kerckhaert Horseshoe Factory. “For four generations, Kerckhaert has been dedicated to designing and manufacturing horseshoes and related products that enhance the work of the farrier. We understand what Diamond customers want and need and we are well positioned to ensure the ongoing success and improvement of the product line. With the experience and knowledge FPD has in distribution, we are confident the Diamond legacy will continue.”
In a letter to its customers, ATG wanted to increase focus on its core business.
“All of ATG businesses and brands are important, and all of our customer relationships are valued,” says John Constatine, president of ATG’s North American Hand Tools. “However, the farrier line was not one that was core to what we do at ATG. As such, we felt we would not be in a position to invest in and support the business in an adequate manner in the future.”
As a result, ATG sought a buyer that would better suit Diamond.
“The farrier business is core to the Kerckhaert company,” he says. “Kerckhaert has been a leader in the category for generations and they bring a tremendous amount of passion and focus to the business. The Diamond business and brand are a natural fit for a company such as Kerckhaert.
“We believe this change will guarantee that Diamond remains a strong brand in the future, as it has been since its inception.”
