Vermont farrier Stephen Hazen passed away. He was 81.

Hazen was a member of Castleton College's 1963 national soccer team. The following year, he joined the Marine Corps PLC Program. He graduated as a second lieutenant and headed to Vietnam shortly after as a first lieutenant. After leaving the military, he attended horseshoeing school on a GI Bill. After teaching physical education in Milton, Va., for several years, he spent the next 45 as a farrier. Hazen was a longtime supporter of the Vermont Farriers Association.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, and many family and friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 11 A.M. at the United Church of Milton, Va.
