On March 14, 2026, the California Professional Farriers Association (CPFA) Facebook page announced that it had filed all the necessary state and federal paperwork to become a nonprofit organization.

"We are thrilled to announce that we have been approved as a chapter by the AFA. Thank you Sam Durham, Martha Jones and Liz Quesinberry for helping us through this process. Thanks as well to the AFA Board of Directors for taking the time to review our application and voting to approve. We can only imagine the impact this will have on farriers throughout California now and for years to come," the CPFA says on Facebook.

As a new American Farrier’s Association chapter, the CPFA will operate in addition to the Western States Farriers Association.

“We currently have two venues interested in hosting our organization in whatever capacity we may need, one near Santa Ynez, Calif., the other near Tulare, Calif. We would like to plan a clinic or something of the sort to start off a membership drive,” the CPFA says on Facebook.

Once a membership roll is established, elections of officers can begin. Check back at the CPFA Facebook page for membership application forms.

“We’re open for business,” the Facebook post says. “We’re just farriers hoping to start something cool for all the farriers in California.”
