New Zealand farrier Kevin Schimanski passed away in a polo accident. He was 88.
Schimanski had been a farrier since he was 14, over 70 years. His three sons, Kevin, Patrick and Nathan are also farriers. He was a lifetime member of the New Zealand Farriers Association and a patron of the Central Districts Polo Association and the Rangitikei Polo Club.
“Kevin gave great service to many equine pursuits, including polo, after more than 70 years of being a farrier, in many cases shoeing for multiple generations of families. Known for his incredible work ethic, generosity in supporting others and his endless love and enthusiasm for polo he will be greatly missed by all,” says the New Zealand Polo Association in a Facebook post.
Schimanski is survived by many family and friends.
"[He was] the kindest, loveliest and most genuine gentleman. He was always willing to help anyone out," Schimanski's daughter-in-law told NewstalkZB.
A celebration of life was held Dec. 27, 2025.
