The Department of the Army is conducting market research to determine potential firms capable of providing farrier services for the U.S. Army Caisson Detachment.
The government intends to award an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract for hoof trimming and horseshoe services for a period of 60 months. The services include hoof trimming, barefoot care, hoof boot services, horseshoeing, specialty and corrective shoeing when required, and standby and emergency farriery as required.
The contractor shall fit the shoe to each horse, depending on the horse's current needs, on a schedule of 4-6 weeks for each horse, unless medically directed to follow an alternate schedule. The contractor must have a mobile unit that enables farrier services to be performed at different areas in which the Caisson Detachment conducts missions, memorial services, validations, and other duties and events required of the Caisson horses. Bids are due by the morning of Oct. 11, 2025.

- Hoof Trimming Services – 624 each
- Horse Shoeing Services – 624 each
- Corrective Trimming & Shoeing – 540 each
- Emergency Hoof Repair – 564 each
- Standby Hours – 96 each
- Service Contract Reporting – 1 Job
- Period of Performance: Base period (05 Dec 2025 – 04 Dec 2026) plus four (4) option years.

- IN GRP Headquarters, 101 Bloxon Street, Bldg. 205 Door 13, Fort Myer, VA 22211
- Additional support locations may include NOVA Equestrian Center (Aldie, VA), Joint Base Myer–Henderson Hall (JBM-HH), and other National Capital Region locations in support of Caisson missions.
Submission Requirements:
- Contractor must hold one of the following certifications:
- American Farrier’s Association Certified/Journeyman Farrier (or equivalent)
- International Association of Professional Farriers
- Brotherhood of Working Farriers Association (Journeyman/Master certification)
- Minimum 5 years professional farrier experience and 3 years therapeutic hoof trimming/shoeing experience.
- Ability to interpret X-rays, advise on corrective shoeing, and work with Draft breeds.
- Must provide two qualified farriers plus support staff.
- Must comply with DoD Anti-Terrorism Training and FAR 52.204-15 annual reporting.
