I want to take a minute to recognize someone who has truly gone above and beyond — Brendan Paulson of Green Mountain Forge and Farrier. Brendan started working with my horse Turkey, who at the time was extremely reactive and far from easy. A lot of professionals might have walked away, but Brendan didn’t. He showed up with patience, calm, and consistency, never rushing the process or losing his cool, no matter how difficult the day. That kind of steady energy speaks volumes. Since then, I’ve seen Brendan handle a range of horses, including one who had just come out of stocks and was carrying a lot of fear around having his feet handled. Brendan didn’t just trim the horse — he took the time to teach him, to build trust, and to prove that not all farrier experiences have to be traumatic. It was clear he wasn’t there just to get the job done — he was there for the horse. Now, he’s been working with my current horse, Cherry Pie, who has his own quirks and baggage. Again, Brendan has brought nothing but patience, clarity, and a genuine care for the horse’s experience. Being a farrier is hard, physical work — but the emotional side of the job is something that often goes unnoticed. Brendan has both the skill and the feel, and it makes a world of difference. So here’s a well-earned thank you to Brendan. I appreciate your hard work more than words can say, and I know my horses do too.
