What's This? For Those Who Don’t Like Nails

Answer:

This is a nailless horseshoe from around 1900. To secure the fit when applying it to the hoof, the horseshoer would twist the small nut from the ground surface This appliance was made from brass and steel. When the shoe was worn, it would be replaced with a new plain stamp shoe.

This shoe was donated by Scottish farrier Robin Pape to Douglas Bradbury’s (FWCF, MBE) UK Horseshoeing Museum. To see more from his museum and a video featuring Bradbury and his museum, please visit AmericanFarriers.com/0418
