Advertisement: Faculty Position as a Veterinarian and Farrier

The Department of Clinical Sciences with the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University invites applications for a Veterinarian Farrier Position.

General and Specific Duties:

The successful clinical candidate will be expected to:

·  Develop and oversee the Veterinary Podiatry and Locomotor Science Program working as a team with the staff farrier providing comprehensive hoof care and educating farriers, veterinary students and veterinarians.

·      Consult and collaborate with hospital clinicians to provide advanced hoof care for Equine and Nemo Farm Animal Hospital patients, supporting and expanding our orthopedic, sports medicine, lameness and rehabilitation services.  

·  Work closely with other clinicians to evaluate horses for soundness using physical

examination and diagnostic techniques including imaging.  Provide therapeutic and performance shoeing for horses and occasionally other species. 

·  Provide veterinary podiatry services to local equine clients working closely with referring veterinarians to provide comprehensive care

·  Develop a curriculum for veterinary students from didactic lectures, interactive sessions, cadaver and equine laboratories, and clinical rotations spanning the four years of veterinary school

·  Assist with the pedagogy and teaching of the farrier certificate program

·  Perform collaborative research concerning the equine musculoskeletal system and hoof 

·  Provide veterinary podiatry services to Cornell University horses requiring advanced care  

·  Educational outreach both locally and regionally, including educational programs for farriers, veterinarians and occasionally lay audiences seeking a deeper integration with veterinary biomechanics and pathology

The successful candidate will have:

·  Doctor of Veterinary Medicine 

·  Specialized training as a Farrier (such as American Farrier’s Association Certified Journeyman Farrier, Therapeutic Endorsement, International Association of Professional Farriers, Accredited Farrier, APF I), and minimum 5 years professional experience with multiple breeds and uses of horses

Preferred

·  Experience teaching, i.e. presenting clinics, presentations to professional and/or lay audiences, engaging and teaching students in a clinical and/or classroom setting 

·  Evidence of research experience and/or interests

The salary range for this position is $135,000-$170,000. Offers higher than the published salary range might be considered to meet unique circumstances, qualifications, academic discipline, and experience.
