Virginia state police charged William A. Mendoza with reckless driving and involuntary manslaughter following the wreck that killed veterinarian Katy Krista.

According to the Fauquier Times Mendoza was traveling westbound on U.S. Hwy. 50 in a 2004 Dodge SUV on Jan. 5, 2018, when he crossed the center line and struck Krista’s vehicle.

Krista was an ambulatory veterinarian at Piedmont Equine Practice, where her specialties included gastroenterology, emergency care and geriatric horses.

“Katy will be deeply missed by all of us and all that knew her,” the practice wrote on their Facebook page. “We will work everyday to honor her memory.”

She is survived by her husband Ben, a farrier. Contributions may be made to the family’s memorial fundraiser.
