The American Farrier’s Association (AFA) posted the rules and details for their National Forging & Horseshoeing Competition, including the list of shoes that competitors must forge.

The competition will take place during the 47th Annual AFA Convention, which will take place Feb. 27-March 2, 2018, in Reno, Nev.

The AFA announced a new competition format for this year’s convention. Among other changes, the competition will now take place in rounds of 20 forging stations provided by the AFA.

“Competitors will no longer need to haul a station to compete,” according to the AFA.

There will be more than $25,000 in prizes at stake throughout two divisions. The Intermediate Division will be open to farriers who have not won it or previously competed in the Open Division. Chris Madrid, CJF; Jonathan Nunn, FWCF; and Conrad Trow, CJF, will judge the Open Division.

The contest’s classes include the Top 20 Live Shoeing Finals, the North American Challenge Cup Qualifier Class, a 2-Person Draft class and a Specialty Forging Class.
