Farrier Product Distribution (FPD) is planning a 7,600-square-foot expansion project that will go before the Triple S Planning Commission on Tuesday in Shelbyville, Ky.

FPD already was outgrowing its space at 361 Haven Hill Road; however, its exclusive distribution deal with Royal Kerckhaert Horseshoe Factory for Diamond farrier products expedited the expansion.

“We have been growing quite steadily year after year with existing brands like Kerckhaert and Liberty nails,” FPD President Dan Burke explains. “The growth in existing lines was already pushing our capacity when Kerckhaert announced the acquisition of Diamond. The Diamond line is not nearly as extensive as Kerckhaert, but with the additional inventory and order processing activity, we knew an expansion couldn’t wait.”

Since constructing the initial 9,600-square-foot building in 1999, FPD has expanded four times. Given that history, the latest expansion should receive the green light.

“We certainly expect approval,” Burke says. “Every few years we’ve done warehouse expansion projects and never ran into any problems. The expansion we are beginning now will move us to just over 42,000 square feet. We are fortunate to have a property where we could expand the facility as needed.”

Once approved, FPD plans to begin construction in early October with conclusion by the end of the year, Burke says.
