Quinsey Resigns As AFA Executive Director

Bryan J. Quinsey, executive director of the American Farrier’s Association since late 2003, has resigned, effective April 14. He will become the administrative director of the Friesian Horse Association of North America.

In a letter to AFA President David Ferguson dated March 17, Quinsey wrote, “I have very much enjoyed my tenure with the AFA and look forward to hearing about many new and exciting opportunities from this association.”

Quinsey was named executive director in November 2003 by the AFA Board of Directors, filling the vacancy that was created in June of that year when the board decided to replace John McCutchen.

Quinsey came to the position with an extensive background in the equine industry, having been a groom, trainer and horse program manager in the United States and Canada. He had been a member of several equine associations.

At the time he was hired, the Executive Board directed Quinsey to focus on increasing awareness of the AFA and its educational programs, growth and retention of members, development of sponsorships and alliances with other equine groups and bringing fiscal health and balance to the organization.

During his tenure, AFA figures indicate the membership has grown to more than 3,000 members. The organization also initiated a continuing education program, awarding credits to members who participated in AFA educational events and established partnerships and buying programs with a number of companies, notably Farnam Co.
