Sometimes a client will forget to stop by the bank to pick up the cash to pay you. Other times, the he or she doesn’t have the checkbook. Or sometimes a client can’t pay you until receiving his or her paycheck.

Whatever the reason, using a mobile payment device can help eliminate the excuses why you can’t be paid that day. In addition, it might be a preferred way that the client wants to handle his or her finances.

Many mobile payment devices attach to your smartphone and allow you to accept debit and credit card payments. There are many designs, but you may find one that attaches directly to your smartphone through the headphone port as the most practical for your business. Before selecting a specific device consider the following:

  • Cost of the device.
  • Service fee (monthly).
  • Swipe/transaction fee.
  • Credit/debit card brands accepted by the company.
  • Ability to link the payments to your personal/business account.
  • Ability to link sales and earnings to business management programs.
