In 2017 the Maryland Horse Foundation introduced its Maryland Horse Career Program, a week-long immersive experience that introduces young adults to a range of equine career opportunities.
“Formerly focused on the Thoroughbred sector, the program now spans racing, breeding, sport, recreation, veterinary and farrier services, event management, media, aftercare and equine-assisted services,” according to the Maryland Horse Foundation Facebook page.
Part of the Howard & Sondra Bender Educational Series, the program aims to increase awareness of the diverse range of equine career options, give participants access to the leaders of the Maryland horse community and provide education in workforce readiness. Activities include visits to equine operations and businesses, as well as group discussions, networking and career workshops.
Applications are open through Feb. 1, 2026, and the program runs June 1-5, 2026. Any applicant who uses or is suspected of using AI to complete the application will not be considered. A complete application includes an application form, a resumé and one letter of recommendation emailed to maryanna@marylandthoroughbred.com.
