South Jordan, Utah, farrier Robert Lee Champion passed away April 16, 2023, from cancer. He was 84.

Raised on his stepfather’s racehorse farm, Champion prepared horses for the track, studied horseshoeing books and shod horses as a teenager. His diligence led him to becoming the farm’s farrier. He trained and shod horses until the age of 79. Along the way, he was a champion Arabian trainer for 40 years with multiple awards, including the Utah State Fair All Breed Western Pleasure championship for 7 consecutive years.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, at Broomhead Funeral Home, 12600 S. 2200 W. Riverton, Utah. Viewing will be from 10-10:45 a.m. Saturday, April 22 at Summit Ridge 1st Ward Meeting House, 591 Summit Ridge Parkway, Santaquin, Utah. Funeral services will follow at 11 am. Interment will be at Fillmore Cemetery, 350 E. 600 S., Fillmore, Utah.
