Northwest College will eliminate its farrier business program as part of an effort to reduce expenses, the Powell Tribune reports.

The Powell, Wyo., school’s board of trustees unanimously voted to terminate the program during a vote Monday night. The board also discontinued the radio and television broadcasting and journalism programs. In addition, the board approved 17 early retirements and will leave 20 positions vacant. The moves will reduce the college’s spending by $2.6 million, but more will be on the way.

“On April 22, I received that lovely letter from the governor” ordering state agencies to cut 8% more from their current budgets, says Stefani Hicswa, college president. “That caused us to rethink. ... There’s still work to be done.”
