Full-Contact Farrier Quiz Bowl?

Southern Horseshoers On Education seek opponent for “Born To Forge Mind Games”

Does any organization out there think it’s got the shoeing knowledge to take on the Southern Horseshoers On Education (S.H.O.E.)? Well, S.H.O.E. says bring it on!

A couple of years ago, S.H.O.E. borrowed a “Quiz Bowl” concept and adapted it to horseshoeing, calling it the “Born To Forge Mind Games.” The game features farriers trying to buzz in first for the chance to answer questions on horseshoeing. This was the second year that Mind Games was a part of the organization’s “Double-Hitter” weekend, and the organization thinks it would be fun to take on another group in a head-to-head contest.

So if any other state shoeing organization would like to give it a try, contact Marcus Pierce at (704) 753-4567 to work out a format.

Apparently homework does pay off in this event. Randy Baker of Indian Trails, N.C., topped the field this year — winning a $700 prize in the process. Baker finished fourth in last year's contest. Dwayne Holder, last year's winner, tied Marcus Pierce for second place, with Pierce taking second after a tie-breaking round.

The “Born To Forge Mind Games” are a great way to have fun and share horseshoeing knowledge — and perhaps to build up state bragging rights on the way.
