The most important thing about tack is that it very comfortable for your horse. The saddle must fit to equalize pressure broadly on the back muscles, not be too narrow (which pinches) or too wide (which drops the saddle against the spine). Use the gentlest bit possible. Use more and better training rather than moving to a harsher bit. Watch out for brow bands or ear pieces that are too short/narrow and irritate the ears. Keep your saddle pads clean, clean, clean.
