With summer finally here and the heat index ramping up, we’re bringing you a refreshing blast of cold February air and a laugh from the International Hoof-Care Summit Trade Show archives.
Suppliers and manufacturers across the globe showcase their products at the world’s largest Hoof-Care Trade Show each year in the Cincinnati Metro Area. The Trade Show allows attendees to talk directly with the people who make your favorite — or new favorite — hoof-care tools and supplies.
While most people either ship or carry home their footcare purchases, one attendee found a unique, cost-effective and likely now forbidden way to bring home his new 200-pound anvil.
The late Australian farrier and frequent Summit attendee Neville Wright crunched the numbers and found that buying his anvil its own plane ticket was cheaper than international shipping. So, he carried it from the Trade Show to his hotel several blocks away, placed it in a taxi to the airport, lugged it through security and then strapped it into the seat next to him for the 9,850-mile journey home. Fortunately, he didn’t catch any passengers in the forehead with the horn as he walked down the aisle.
While we can’t guarantee this would be allowed today, Wright’s determination and ingenuity showcase the value of the Trade Show. Find the product you’re most excited to incorporate into your business this February 3-6 and bring it home — safely!

"The IHCS and Trade Show are a great place to see what is out on the market that we may not have known about. There's no substitute for getting your hands on a new item and talking directly with the people who make it. "
