How CBD Can Benefit Horses

Supplements can calm and relieve discomfort

A free sample of cannabidiol — or CBD — was life-changing for Renee Vandenberg. Now, she hopes it helps horses and farriers

The De Pere, Wis., organic farmer and horse trainer was suffering from debilitating nerve pain for several years following a car crash.

“I was rear-ended by a drunk driver,” Vandenberg says. “He was going 60 mph, and I was at a stop sign. The impact broke my seat back and dislocated my clavicle. The pain was so severe that I couldn’t even cut up an onion or lift a bedsheet to put it over me.”

A military veteran’s group approached Vandenberg to grow hemp for them on the family's 200-acre farm, which is one of the largest certified organic farms in the Green Bay, Wis., area. During a meeting to discuss the arrangement, Vandenberg was given a free sample of CBD to try.
