Alabama farrier Phillip Box shows how he makes this farrier tool

The tool bug bit Phillip Box several years ago, motivating him to attend toolmaking clinics. The Notasulga, Ala., farrier drove across the Yellowhammer State once a week for years to learn from Russell Colvin, a well-known toolmaker. Since those weekly visits years ago, Box has become skilled in toolmaking, as well as a sought-after clinician

In early summer, Box presented at a Texas Professional Farriers Association clinic hosted at Texas Farrier Supply. He shared insight not just on making various tools, but how to modify tools to better fit the individual. During this 2-day clinic, Box showed how he makes a fuller. The certified journeyman farrier not only gave attendees advice on making the tool, but also insight on how design affects its performance.
