An affinity for Quarter Horses is practically in Terry Stever’s DNA, as his father started working with them in 1955 when Stever was only a boy.

“He’s got me into showing and riding,” Stever says.

He credits fellow Hall of Famer George Fitzgerald for introducing him to shoeing initially, and a long list of other notable farriers for teaching and inspiring him along the way.

Among other organizations, he has been involved with the Ohio Quarter Horse Congress, Connecticut Horseshoers Association and Southern Farriers Association. He’s also led or participated in many clinics over the years, including at Cornell University. He has shod at the Denver National Western and Pre-Denver Quarter Horse shows for many years, as well as the AQHA World Championships.

He is also known for his attention to detail and mentoring, especially students at Kentucky Horseshoeing School.
