Kenner, La., farrier Nicolo John Hannan Sr., passed away Jan. 28, 2019. He was 76.
Hannan began working as a farrier in New Orleans under the mentorship of the late Lawrence Leonardi. His love for horseshoeing and blacksmithing drove him to become a certified farrier through the American Farrier's Association and the Brotherhood of Working Farriers Association. He was a lifelong member of the Southern Farriers Association.
When not shoeing horses, Hannan enjoyed judging rodeos and horse shows. He bonded with his sons by hunting and with his daughters by going to horse shows.
Visitation will be at noon Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, with a memorial service to follow at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, La.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Hannan's name to American Farrier's Association, 4059 Iron Works Parkway, Ste. 1, Lexington, KY 40511-8488 or by calling (859) 233-7411. Donations can be made to any of the following: the General Fund, The Equine Research Fund or the Jim Linzy Memorial Fund. Donations can also be made to the Southern Farriers Association, in care of Sandy McBeath, 10241 Road 216, Union, MS 39365-0001.
