American Farriers Journal
American Farriers Journal is the “hands-on” magazine for professional farriers, equine veterinarians and horse care product and service buyers.
Editor's Note: This exclusive series of American Farriers Journal reviews will help you select the latest videos on shoeing techniques, hoof care ideas and new products.
These reviews give insight into videos worth viewing in two categories: professional farrier category for those wishing to learn more about shoeing ideas, and the horse owner category for those wanting to better understand corrective shoeing ideas.
Mitch Taylor brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this video as you’re treated to an in-depth, detailed dissection and analysis of the horse’s lower leg. All major and minor systems of a horse’s lower leg are shown, dissected and explained in this presentation at the 1999 AFA convention.
Taylor has several limbs in various stages of dissection so you don’t have to sit through long periods of repetition. Each limb is used to illustrate different structures.
Taylor takes great care in showing all the small anatomical details of tendons, ligaments, cartilage, vascular systems and bone. The dissections are spiced up with bone pathology from a variety of common lameness conditions.
Do those sesamoidian ligaments throw you for a loop on the certification tests? Do you know where the digital pulse is? Where do they perform a neurectomy? How does the knee flex? What do horn tubules look like?
Well, pay attention, rewind and study. You’ll be able to answer these questions and more after viewing this video.
Taylor does an excellent job and there are good close-ups and sound…
