Fad Diets And Binging

LAST ISSUE WE discussed the importance of a balanced diet for the hard work that goes with the farrier profession. But what should you do if you think your weight is more than it should be?

Fad Diets

Beware of the so-called miracle diets. Health and nutritional specialists recommend losing no more than 1/2 to 1 pound a week. Lose more and you run the risk of losing lean tissue and essential nutrients. Losing weight is not an overnight thing. It takes hard work, dedication and — most importantly — time. Consulting a nutrition specialist can help you design a program that can work for you.

Avoid Binging

Another unhealthy eating practice is consuming a lot of food at one sitting. This is hard on your digestive system and usually leaves you feeling tired. If you try not to eat throughout a day, your body may react by storing body fat and consuming lean tissue. It’s a better idea to eat several smaller meals throughout the day than one big one.

Save Money

It almost makes financial sense for a farrier. Packing your lunch with some healthy snacks will cost you much less than dining out every day!
