Jim Maier (Rochester, Pa.)

Jim Maier is a farrier our family had found. He was inexpensive, rich and deep in knowledge. He had graduated from the Texas School of Farriery. His trimming and balancing techniques were just as comparable to Gene Ovnicek’s, before I had heard of Gene Ovnicek’s Natural Balance Shoeing techniques.  Jim started coming out for one pony that had been mechanically foundered. As we acquired more ponies, mules and burros, he started handing me the rasp and taught me to trim and shoe. One particular visit, my stepfather spliced his leg rope while watching us trim. It was always a treat each appointment he showed up.  When we were shoeing, we were shoeing.
