Guy Doubleday, Sr.

Guy Doubleday and Guy Doubleday, Sr.I found a picture of my father and I (Guy Doubleday, Sr.). He shod horses around the country and then at the harness tracks for many years. He continued to shoe after moving to Colorado until he was 74. He'll be 84 as of May 30, 2014.

Dad taught me to shoe, first at home, then on the racetrack with harness horses. My father was a shoer at Saratoga Raceway for many years before he moved. He shod at Pompano Harness Track in Florida and The Red Mile in Kentucky for several years. I travelled with him and continued to learn long after my "apprentice" label had disappeared. I'm sure many people will recognize him. He currently lives with his lifelong partner, Shirley (my mom), in Penrose, Colo. I am there two or three mornings a week drinking his coffee and visiting.
