[Video] Shoeing the Laminitic Horse: Where We’ve Been and Where We’re Going

Lubbock, Texas, farrier Burney Chapman and Longmont, Colo., veterinarian George Platt were instrumental in the reintroduction of the heart-bar shoe to treat and manage laminitis after their joint presentation at the 1984 American Association of Equine Practitioners Convention. Nearly 40 years later, the legacy of the heart-bar shoe continues to benefit horses.

In this session, Vernon, Texas, farrier Blane Chapman looks back on the effectiveness of the heart-bar shoe (with input of industry members) and examines how advances in technology and farriery have revolutionized the way we shoe the laminitic horse.
