Plenty Of Lameness Topics On AAEP Convention Program

A variety of scientific presentations dealing with many aspects of footcare will be presented by veterinarians and researchers during the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) annual convention in San Diego, Calif. The event at the San Diego Convention Center from Nov. 24 to 28, 2001, includes a podiatry forum under the leadership of Colorado veterinarian and researcher Al Kane that will discuss various topics of special interest to farriers and vets.

The event normally attracts more than 3,500 veterinarians, veterinary students, suppliers and others involved in all aspects of the equine industry. A horse owners’ day of special informative topics is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 25.

Among topics to be discussed in scientific presentations, at noon hour discussions and during early morning sunrise meetings are:

  • Canker and white line disease
  • Lameness in the racehorse
  • Laminitis
  • Underrun heels and toe-grab length as possible risk factors for catastrophic musculoskeletal injuries in Oklahoma racehorses
  • The biomechanical effect of wedged, egg bar and extension shoes in sound and lame horses
  • No foot, no horse
  • Lameness in the Western performance horse
  • Foot lameness
  • Lameness in non-racing horses
  • Cushings disease
  • Hindlimb lameness
  • Lameness in sport horses
  • How to repair navicular bone fractures
  • How to repair quarter cracks
  • Lameness in the athletic horse
