If you prefer buying at the supply shop, look for deals tied to bulk purchases or events held at the store.

Even if the economic climate wasn’t so disheartening for most of the equine industry, it just makes good business sense to save money whenever you can in your farrier practice. To do so, many horseshoers have employed creative or sophisticated ways. However, have you overlooked the savings you might find at your local supply shop?

Increase Your Buying Power

Just as at Sam’s Club or Costco, buying in bulk will save you money at many farrier supply shops. To receive this discount, you may need to reach a minimum sales amount. Since there is a limit to how many supplies and tools that you need every year, you will likely need to enter into an informal buying co-op with other farriers to hit that mark.

Depending on where you shop, you can receive a discount of a percentage off your order or free shipping. The discount you receive may depend on the type of product and the number of cases that you buy. Alvin Farrier Supply (locations in Alvin and Tomball, Texas)offers sale prices on select items like race plates and nails. With nails, they price them in three tiers: box, case and three cases.
