Every other year, American Farriers Journal conducts a comprehensive survey of the farrier industry. Our most recent survey was conducted in late 2022, uncovering business trends ranging from income to products used to client relationships. These results provide tremendous insight on how farriers conduct their businesses.
For example, we asked about the practice of referring work to other farrier specialists. As a veterinarian, this probably isn’t a foreign concept. But for farriers it is. Only 36% of the farriers who responded to this survey refer work to other farriers. The most common referral work from farriers: glue-on shoes.
A few questions look at subjects pertinent to the veterinarian- farrier relationships. This gives a snapshot of the percentage of the industry working with veterinarians and how they view these relationships.
