Hi,

I replaced my nailing hammer handle this spring and it has remained tight until just recently. We have had very hot and dry, dry weather....about 100F. or so and no rain or moisture for over a month. My hammer handle has loosened and I was looking for ideas to tighten it without having to replace the whole handle. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Next time you have a bucket of water around, place your hammers in head first. The handels will soak up the moisture and swell in the steel and tighten. It's a good fix if you are doing some forge work. If you change your oil in you're rig yourself place the hammers in the oil for a few minuets instead. It can be a little messier but oil doesn't evaporate like water does so the fix lasts a longer time. You can always try the more permanant approach and drive a new wedge into the top!

I soak mine in antifreeze! Keeps them tight and doesn't evorporate. Good Luck! Just keep it away from the barn dogs and cats otherwise you'll be diggin holes!

CAUTION on the antifreeze!!!!! If you're bare hands come in contact with antifreeze it will pentrate your skin and go into you're blood stream.

I do wash off with water before it goes back into the tool box. Good point!
